AFLIC welcomes 40,000 runners as marathons return in 2022

For many years, AFLIC has been encouraging people to adopt and live a healthy lifestyle believing good health is the best insurance you can have. Using the platform of sport, and running in particular, AFLIC has been organising marathons since 2016 in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kochi, and Kolkata. As a sport that anyone can participate in, these marathons put running as a sport firmly back on the map.

Covid put a temporary halt to traditional marathons as the risk in such large gatherings was deemed too high. In their place ‘virtual’ marathons were organised allowing enthusiastic runners to run at home or another safe environment where timings and distance were tracked via a running app. Some 95,000 runners participated.

But with a return to near normal, on-ground events resumed in 2022 attracting more than 40,000 runners across the different events. AFLIC also sponsored the prestigious IAU 24H Asia and Oceania Championships in Bengaluru, the first international Ultra Running Championship to be held in India.
